Stocks Up, Dow Down

Stocks mostly advanced again today, although prices closed below their highs of the session.
The Dow Jones average of 30 industrials closed down 4.64 at 1,280.59.
New York Stock Exchange volume was about 140.98 million shares compared with 143.90 million shares Tuesday.
