A commuter aircraft crashed into a thick grove of trees, burst into flames and disintegrated while making an instrument approach in bad weather, killing all nine persons aboard, authorities said Tuesday.

The twin-engine Beechcraft Queen Air, operated by North Pacific Airlines of Anchorage, went down Monday night about a mile east of Soldotna Airport on the Kenai Peninsula, an FAA spokesman said.
