Local News in Brief : Annexation North of Simi Freeway Urged

Share

Annexation of unincorporated territory north of the Simi Valley Freeway and completion of Plummer Street between Canoga and De Soto avenues are among the recommendations contained in a report issued by a citizens’ advisory committee on the Chatsworth-Porter Ranch District Plan.

The plan, which governs land use in the northwest corner of the Valley, was adopted by the City Council in 1974.

The citizens’ report will serve as the basis for drafting a proposed revision of the plan, which must be approved by the City Planning Commission and the council.

Most of the committee’s recommendations would make only minor changes in existing population densities and land use policies, said city planner Albert Landini, who helped prepare the report.

Much of the report deals with a large tract of county territory north of the freeway and north and west of Tampa Avenue.

A developer has proposed rezoning the land for more than 8,000 condominiums, an industrial park and a shopping center. The committee said that would conflict with densities allowed on adjacent city land.

Annexation would give the city an opportunity to assign zoning to the property similar to zoning on nearby city land, the committee said.

In addition to urging that top priority be given to completing Plummer Street as a secondary street, the committee advocated extension of Valley Circle Boulevard from Germain Street to Chatsworth Street.

Copies of the report are available at the Planning Department office at Van Nuys City Hall, Landini said.
