Doctors at Yale-New Haven (Conn.) Hospital performed a liver transplant on a 12-week-old baby who they believe is the youngest person ever to receive the operation. Marissa Emple of Brookfield was listed in critical condition after the 9 1/2-hour operation, hospital spokesman George Pawlush said. Critical condition is normal after a liver transplant. The girl was suffering from a rare disease called tyrosinemia in which the body is unable to break down certain amino acids.
