Mixed-Use Development Will Open in Sunnymead

Sunnymead Commerce Center, an $8-million mixed-use development, is being built on an 8.42-acre site on the northwest corner of Heacock Street and Alessandro Boulevard.

Scheduled for completion in March, the project, with 115,400 square feet of leasable space, was designed by Craig Combs Associates of Newport Beach and is being developed by a partnership with Ray Almscheid, Andy Kalanz and Phil Olsen as general partners. The Michael Jordan Co. of San Bernardino is handling leasing.

La Jolla Plaza Completed

La Jolla Bank & Trust Plaza, a $35-million, 160,000-square-foot corporate business center, has been completed in San Diego’s Golden Triangle area at 9333 Genesee Ave. with the bank and trust company as anchor tenant.

Last August, the Hartford Insurance Group purchased the two, four-story office buildings, designed by Buss Silvers Hughes & Associates, from the developer, Oliver McMillan. Iliff, Thorn & Co. is exclusive leasing agent.

Fontana Ground Broken

Ground has been broken on the $5.5-million Fontana Plaza East, a 6.5-acre center to be anchored by National Lumber at 9811 Sierra Ave.

Scheduled to open in the middle of this year, the project will have 105,000 square feet of retail space that will be developed by Dafka Development Co. Grubb & Ellis is handling leasing.

Chula Vista Work Starts

Construction has begun on the $4-million Hilltop Business Center, a 6.5-acre, three-building project being built by Harper Development & Construction Co. for Westana Investments partners Bill Fontana and Wes Mudge.

Designed by architect Paul E. Graf, the center will accommodate light manufacturing, warehousing or multi-tenant businesses. Coldwell Banker is the leasing agent.

5 Deals in 5 Years

Coldwell Banker Commercial Group companies have completed their fifth transaction in as many years involving Plavan Plaza, a Fountain Valley retail development.

The companies first handled the 48,000-square-foot center’s purchase by developer B. H. Miller Construction Co. of Santa Ana, then assisted in the leasing, next helped in selling the center to Aetna Life Insurance Co., and finally sold the plaza to Charles A. Bonnett of Fountain Valley for $4.3 million.
