R.J. Reynolds Industries Inc. reported record earnings for the fourth quarter and 1984. The international consumer-products and services company said its performance reflected higher unit volume and market-share gains in many of its product lines and improved profits in all of its major businesses. Also contributing to the results were new businesses acquired during the year and continued rapid expansion of the company’s Kentucky Fried Chicken chain.

Camden, N.J.-based Campbell Soup Co. reported net income for its fiscal second quarter ended Jan. 27 rose 7.5% from a year ago as revenues climbed 6%. For the first six months of the 1985 year, Campbell reported a 4% increase in net income. The company attributed its improved second-quarter results to volume gains recorded in the United States by Prego spaghetti sauces, Swanson poultry products and its food-service units.

Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, N.J., reported 1984 net income rose 5.2% over 1983 net, with a 64% increase in the fourth quarter. The health-care company said a strong U.S. dollar had a significant negative effect on the growth of international sales and earnings when expressed in dollars.
