Protest Leads to Order to Remove Radio Towers
About 25 angry residents this week successfully petitioned the City Council to do something about three towering ham radio antennas in a residential neighborhood.
Besides the potential danger should one fall, the antennas are a neighborhood eyesore, the residents said. Two of the antennas are 95 feet tall and the third is 65 feet.
The council agreed and ordered the towers dismantled within 90 days. Contributing to the decision was a staff report confirming complaints that Howard Koch, the owner, had failed to abide by the strict construction guidelines set by the city when the antennas were built.
Koch argued that dismantling the towers would pose an extreme financial hardship.
The antennas are at 2030 and 2032 E. Rose Ave.
