Ria Gold Enterprises Inc., and its chief executive officer, Maria A. Rogers, agreed to pay $10,000 in civil penalties and avoid misrepresenting “free” vacations in order to end a civil consumer protection suit by the state attorney general’s office. Deputy Atty. Gen. Michael R. Botwin claimed that the company falsely told people that they had won prizes of free trips, then charged them for transportation, food and other items and required them to sit through high-pressure presentations for land sales. The company admitted no wrongdoing in the order signed by Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Christine B. Hickman.
