Rules on currency reproductions were eased.

The Treasury Department said that it will allow reproductions of U.S. currency to be used in commercial advertisements if certain requirements are met. The department said reproductions cannot be in color and they must be either 25% smaller or 50% larger than the actual size of the bills. Any negatives or plates used in the ads must be destroyed afterward. Such reproductions have been allowed in the past to accompany news articles but forbidden in advertisements. The department said the new policy conforms to a Supreme Court opinion last year that upheld key provisions of an anti-counterfeiting law.
