‘Plant-a-Tree Month’ Scheduled in Burbank

The City of Burbank has proclaimed March “Plant-a-Tree Month” to encourage planting of trees on the hillsides, around the Starlight Amphitheatre and in other areas of the city as well as to promote understanding of the benefits of urban forests, city officials have announced.

Two tree-planting projects will take place during the month, one sponsored by the Women’s Council of Burbank and the other by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. The Women’s Council project, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, will concentrate on the city’s hillsides.

Donations toward the purchase trees can be made to the council by residents or clubs in the name of individuals or organizations. A “donor presentation ceremony” will be held next Friday at the Starlight Amphitheatre.

The city-sponsored project will focus on getting schoolchildren involved in the planting. The Parks and Recreation Department will provide the trees and children from elementary schools will plant them. City officials said the program is designed to reduce vandalism against trees by educating children about the importance of urban forests.
