General Motors announced that it will license the firm to build a line of transmissions for heavy machinery. The 10-year agreement, between GM’s Detroit Diesel Allison division and Qijian Gear Works in Sichuan Province, is its first with China, GM said. Qijian will manufacture the Allison Powershift brand of transmissions with parts supplied by the GM division’s Indianapolis plant. The deal is subject to Chinese government approval, GM said.
