A large California pepper tree will be planted at the Santa Ana Zoo in Prentice Park at 11:45 a.m. During the ceremony, Fred Roth, a professor of ornamental horticulture at Cal Poly Pomona, will talk about tree maintenance and diseases.

At 1:15 in the afternoon, Madison Elementary School pupils will put on a program of poetry, song and skits at Madison Park, 1528 S. Standard Ave., while six jacaranda trees are planted. The jacaranda is Santa Ana’s official tree. Three of the trees have been donated by the citizens’ group, Let’s Improve Santa Ana (LISA). The other three will be provided by the city.

At 3 p.m., a jacaranda tree will be planted at the new Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center, 1000 E. Santa Ana Blvd.

The public is invited to all the tree plantings. For more information, call the Cultural, Recreation and Community Services Department at 834-4145.
