Dissatisfied Member Formed a New Club

Share

The Prime of Life Singles Club was born largely out of dissatisfaction with another singles group, according to the club founder, Jan Wahl. “I was a member of another club, and I hate to say I didn’t think it was being run properly, but that was my feeling. It had no foundation. Everybody sort of did what they wanted to, and nobody on the board knew what their jobs were,” she said.

Rather than try to change the disorganized ways of this older club, she formed the Prime of Life Singles, which celebrated its one-year anniversary in February. Wahl says the focus of the Huntington Beach-based club has shifted in the past year.

“We started out just having happy hours and dining-out events, but we’ve added golf, bowling and bridge, and we’re just now adding hiking.”

To join Prime of Life Singles, one must be 45 or older and pay an $18 yearly membership fee. Wahl said the fee covers the club’s printing and mailing costs, and all surplus funds are returned to the members in the form of free parties, such as last month’s anniversary bash.

Although the board meets monthly, the 125-member club does not have general meetings. Members gather for the various activities, with happy hours consistently attracting the largest turnout. For further information about Prime of Life Singles, call Wahl at 840-4569.
