Chernenko a No-Show at Women’s Day Rite

MOSCOW —
Ailing President Konstantin U. Chernenko failed to appear with other members of the ruling Politburo today at an important ceremony marking International Women’s Day.
The Soviet leader traditionally attends the ceremony, held at the Bolshoi Theater on the eve of the March 8 holiday, although an appearance is not considered obligatory.
