A Spring Valley man has been indicted on charges of making false statements to a U.S. Customs agent and failing to report $300,000 he was taking from the United States into Mexico, U.S. Atty. Peter K. Nunez announced Friday. Pedro Mireles-Felix, 50, is being held by the U.S. Customs Service in lieu of $2 million bail after being arrested at the San Ysidro border station. Federal law requires that any person transporting more than $10,000 in or out of the United States file a Customs report before entering or leaving the United States. At the time of his arrest, Mireles-Felix had in his possession $300,000 in cash and receipts for about $1.5 million that had been deposted in previous days in a Tijuana exchange house. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.
