Cheapening of College Education

I certainly understand that an economic writer like Robert Samuelson, would focus on the financial part of the education problem. But that is or should not be the issue. Education is!

We do not need to reduce higher education possibilities by restricting financing. It is important for the individual and the nation that those who can achieve get the opportunity to do so.

I am not saying anything that is revolutionary or creative as the subject of oft addressed but, Mr. Samuelson, the Reagan Administration and others that relate all problems to money are confusing the issues. We need a national philosophy that is geared to individual and group needs, a philosophy that touches upon all the elements not just the financial one.RICHARD STRAUSS Beverly Hills
