Clerk Fires at Woman Who Stole Donations
A liquor store clerk whose brother and sister died of cancer shot out three tires of a car driven by a woman he said impersonated an American Cancer Society representative and fled with a fishbowl full of donations, police said today.
Karen Lewis, 31, whose car was found with three flat tires in a nearby alley, was charged with criminal conversion of property--the $40 that the fishbowl contained.
The clerk, Shawn Collier, 27, said a woman had telephoned to say she would pick up the funds for the cancer society on Tuesday, but he “knew this woman wasn’t with them.”
He said he “shot three tires off the car” and added: “Look, I had a brother and sister die of cancer, and for someone to do something like this makes me sick to my stomach.”
