Tax-Cutting Exponent to Talk:J. Peter Grace, who headed a Presidential commission from 1982-84 that recommended $424 billion in cost-cutting measures for the federal government, will speak April 2 at UC Irvine. Grace’s talk is the first in a three-part lecture series that will include Charlayne Hunter-Gault, a national correspondent for the “MacNeil/Lehrer Report” on April 30, and McGeorge Bundy, special assistant for national security affairs for the Kennedy and Johnson Administrations, on May 28. The Grace commission’s findings were criticized by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Robert J. Dole (R-Kan.) in February as overstated and based on slashing social benefits. Grace will speak at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Village Theatre.
