Queen Elizabeth to Visit Grenada in Fall, BBC Says

LONDON — Queen Elizabeth II is planning to visit Grenada this fall, the British Broadcasting Corp. reported.
A spokeswoman for Buckingham Palace said it was “no secret” the queen is planning a Caribbean tour that would take her to a scheduled summit meeting in the Bahamas of the Commonwealth, the 49-nation association of Britain and its former colonies, which includes Grenada.
But the spokeswoman said last week she was “not in a position to confirm as yet just where the queen will be going.”
A U.S.-led force invaded the islands in October, 1983, without consulting the British government, following the killing of Grenada’s Marxist prime minister, Maurice Bishop, during a coup.
“The monarch, as head of state, will be in Grenada on the advice of her personal representative, the governor-general, Sir Paul Schoon, who at the time of the crisis was the sole remaining source of government legitimacy on the island,” the BBC said.
