Soviets Embarrassed Over Defector’s Article

A leading Soviet music magazine struck a wrong note today when its latest edition contained an article by top pianist Andrei Gavrilov--almost three weeks after he defected to Britain.

The names of defectors to the West are normally expurgated from the Soviet press. But the magazine Musikalnaya Zhizn (Musical Life) goes to press two months before its publication date and the editors, who include the late President Yuri V. Andropov’s daughter Irina, apparently were unable to have Gavrilov’s article deleted.
