A district attorney in Athens was shot to death outside his suburban home by two masked attackers who escaped on a motorbike. A previously unknown group calling itself “Anti-State Struggle” claimed responsibility for the killing of George Theofanopoulos, 50, leaving a leaflet at the scene of the shooting. Theofanopoulos had been criticized for his supervision of the investigation of the killing of newspaper publisher George Athanassiades. No arrests were made in the case.
