A blizzard barreled through the Colorado mountains, shutting down an interstate highway and prompting a winter storm warning as winds gusted to 70 m.p.h. Forecasters predicted up to eight inches of new snow in the north and central mountains. “We’re having an extreme whiteout, extreme icing conditions, and we’ve got jackknifed trucks and spun-out vehicles” on Interstate 70, Colorado State Patrol dispatcher Linda Boss said. The blizzard also closed down Colorado’s Loveland Pass, and an avalanche warning was posted for north of a line from Montrose to Pueblo.
