Vietnam to Confiscate Freed American’s Boat

BANGKOK, Thailand —
Vietnamese authorities have decided to confiscate the schooner of an American released Thursday after spending more than eight months in a Vietnamese jail, Radio Hanoi said Friday.
William Mathers, 41, was jailed last July on charges of violating territorial waters. Friday’s Hanoi broadcast, monitored in Bangkok, asserted that the American admitted to the charges.
