The American Lung Assn. wishes to pay tribute to the memory of the late Luther L. Terry MD. His courageous leadership made possible the 1964 Surgeon General’s Report on Smoking and Health, the first official document to identify the link between smoking and disease. Dr. Terry, more than any other American, deserves credit for changing the life styles of the American people. Since that 1964 report was issued, more than 33 million Americans have quit smoking. Thanks to Dr. Terry, our people today smoke less and live longer and fuller lives. We at the American Lung Assn. salute a great American.
