Ambush Kills 6 Filipino Soldiers

BUTUAN, Philippines — Communist rebels ambushed a three-vehicle military convoy on the southern Philippines island of Mindanao, killing an army battalion commander and five other soldiers, the military said today.
Regional commander Brig. Gen. Madrino Munoz arrived in Butuan, capital of Agusan del Norte province in the mountainous northern section of Mindanao, today to supervise a search for the rebels, who fled after Tuesday’s ambush.
