Inmates of Folsom Prison were locked down after an altercation between black and Latino prisoners left seven men injured. Guard Lt. T. J. Smith said about 20 prisoners were involved in the fracas, which began in the license plate factory, when a black inmate was stabbed by a Latino inmate. One man was sent to the University Medical Center at Sacramento, while six others were treated at the prison infirmary. Smith said guards were able to restore order without firing a shot--although a tower guard who first spotted the disturbance fired several rounds into the air to attract the attention of other officers.
