An infant boy was critically burned and his mother was arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment after a fire at their Monterey Park home. Frances Granada, 20, told police a cigarette spark ignited the carpet on which her 3-month-old son, Noel, was lying. She said she snatched him from the flames and took him to the nearby home of her parents, then returned to extinguish the flames. The boy was rushed to the burn ward at County-USC Medical Center where he was treated for burns over 60% of his body. Granada was released on $2,000 bail.
