City-owned hangars at Torrance Municipal Airport will rent for $225 and $235 a month and may not be used for purposes unrelated to aviation under new regulations adopted by the City Council this week.

City airport officials will also have the right to inspect the hangars with 24-hours written notice to make sure they are in compliance with the new rules.

The city took over control of 30 privately owned hangars April 1 after refusing to extend the ground lease of the master lease holder.

Airport officials had complained they had little control over how the hangars were being used because they were privately owned. Officials said hangars were being used for storing furniture and cars, as a base of operations for businesses and subleased so that more than one aircraft were being stored in hangars designed for just one.

The monthly rent for the hangars will be $225 without electricity, $235 with electricity. The city expects annual gross revenues of $83,040 for the 30 hangars.
