Iranians and Afghans Clash Over Flogging

TEHRAN — Several people were injured and 70 detained in the Iranian city of Mashhad after a clash between Afghan refugees and local residents over the flogging of an Iranian boy, a Tehran newspaper said Thursday.
The newspaper, Islamic Republic, quoted a local official as saying an Afghan girl was also sentenced to be flogged for “indecent relations” with the boy, but the official did not say whether the sentence had been carried out.
