A six-month investigation by Coronado police and Hotel Del Coronado security into the reported use and sale of drugs by hotel employees has yielded six arrests. Coronado police Friday announced the arrests of waitress Lynne Guzerski, 25; waiter George Corpus, 30, and maintenance worker Darren Newman, 22, on suspicion of selling cocaine. Police also arrested maintenance worker John Bowman, 22, and painter Antonio Ortega, 30, on suspicion of being under the influence of heroin. As part of the same investigation, police earlier arrested non-employee Frank Calamari, 33, for suspicion of sale of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine and possession of a restricted weapon. Police estimated the combined wholesale value of all the drugs confiscated at $1,500. The investigation, initiated after hotel officials received reports of widespread drug dealing by employees, revealed that “the problem is not severe as they originally believed,” Coronado Police Chief John Boyd said.
