KANDY, Sri Lanka —
British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, under heavy security against possible attacks from separatist rebels, inaugurated Sri Lanka’s largest dam and hydroelectric power plant Friday in a colorful ceremony.
Accompanied by President Junius R. Jayewardene, Thatcher pressed three buttons to send the water gushing from the concrete Victoria dam, about 160 miles east of Colombo, the capital. She is scheduled to visit India next on the last stop of her six-nation, 10-day Asia tour.
