The highly contagious bacteria that kills fruit trees was confirmed at an 18-acre nursery near Tampa in the first discovery of the disease this year, agriculture officials said. Spokeswoman Linda Perry said the discovery means that all 652,000 citrus trees at Hillsboro Wholesale Nurseries in Valrico, owned by Douglas Holmberg, will be destroyed since there is no known cure for citrus canker. The discovery brings to 10 the number of Florida nurseries infested with the disease since it was first confirmed last August. The most recent confirmation was last Dec. 3.
