Child Support Enforcement

I read with interest the article appearing (March 19), “Philibosian Sides With Allred on Child Support Issue.”

The issue on which former District Attorney Robert Philibosian agrees with Gloria Allred is District Attorney Ira Reiner’s alleged insensitivity to the problems of mothers whose husbands have failed to make court-ordered child support payments.

From a reading, it appears that Philibosian was not aware, nor is he now aware, of the activities of the family support section of the district attorney’s office, even when he was the district attorney.

For the past four years, I have been appointed by the supervising judge of the Family Law Departments of the Superior Court (Central District) to interview and represent indigent fathers and purported fathers who were charged with failure to pay child support and paternity.

In that period of time, I have handled more than 2,000 such matters. I, probably more than any other attorney, am totally familiar with the vigorous prosecution by the district attorney’s office of fathers who are remiss in making child support payments, even under Philibosian’s administration, though, probably, he may not have been aware of it.

The stepped-up filings under Reiner’s administration, and the aggressive action of the deputy district attorneys of the family support section in seeking child support payments from delinquent fathers, indicates a complete ignorance of the subject on the part of Philibosian and Allred.

Understand that I am not paid for what I do, so my comments are not motivated by any benefit to me. I just dislike a “loser” taking cheap shots at a “winner.”
