Suicide Note Leads to Huge Arms Cache
From Reuters
BAYONNE, France —
Directions left in a suicide note led to the largest arms cache ever found in the French Basque country, a police spokesman said Tuesday.
The cache included nearly three tons of explosives, rolls of detonator cord, 66 anti-tank rockets, 121,000 7.62-millimeter bullets and 67,000 9-millimeter bullets, the spokesman said.
He said officers were alerted to the cache late Monday by a call from Michel Lafitte, a construction engineer who said he was about to commit suicide.
