Bellflower
Businessman James Earle Christo has been elected mayor by the five-member City Council. He will serve for one year.
Christo also was mayor in 1982-83. He was elected to a four-year term on the City Council in April, 1982, after running on an anti-redevelopment platform.
In Bellflower, the role of mayor is largely ceremonial. His main duty is presiding at City Council meetings.
Christo, who was mayor pro tem, replaces John Ansdell as mayor. The new mayor pro tem is Joseph Cvetko, a retired postal worker.
Both were elected by four members of the City Council, with Councilman Ray O’Neal abstaining.
