Crash Reportedly Kills 2 Laotian Military Chiefs
The Laotian deputy defense minister and the army chief of staff were killed in northwestern Laos last month when rebels hit their helicopter with artillery fire, the Bangkok World newspaper reported Thursday.
The English-language daily, quoting an unidentified military source, said the helicopter carrying Brig. Gen. Ai Souryaseng, the deputy defense minister, and Brig. Gen. Sithone Manolar, the army chief of staff, struck a mountain during the attack. Also killed were two Vietnamese major generals and three Soviet advisers, the paper said.
