Lockheed Missiles & Space, a unit of Burbank-based Lockheed, awarded a $15-million contract to American Science & Engineering of Cambridge, Mass., to build production systems related to the inspection of Trident D-5 solid rocket motors.

Logicon, Torrance, said it received a $6-million, one-year contract--with two one-year options--to provide support services to the Navy’s Electronic Systems Command’s computer- resources division.

Meanwhle, Logicon said its RDA subsidiary has received a three-year, $4-million contract from the Defense Nuclear Agency to provide technical support, including the development of testing procedures for a new, small intercontinental ballistic missile.

Los Angeles-based Reliance Steel & Aluminum said it purchased the physical assets of All Metals’s Union City, Calif., steel processing plant. The purchase price was in excess of $1 million cash.

Fairmont Financial, Burbank, said it acquired Surety Management, Denver, for an undisclosed amount of cash and the assumption of debt.

Brajdas, Beverly Hills, said it reached an agreement in principle to acquire RPS Electronics, Buena Park, an electronics-parts distributor, for about 380,000 shares of Brajdas common stock, plus contingent shares based on earnings performance.

American Medical International, Beverly Hills, and Doctors’ Hospital of Prince George’s County in Lanham, Md., said they have reached a definitive agreement for the purchase of the 250-bed hospital by AMI. The cash purchase price was not disclosed.

Ameron, Monterey Park, said it received an $18.3-million concrete-pipe supply contract from the City of Seattle for a water pollution-control project.

PerfectData, Chatsworth, said it converted its $1.6 million-loan to 2.2 million shares of Permabyte Magnetics stock. Under terms of an agreement between Polaroid, PerfectData Corp. and Permabyte Magnetics, PMI’s manufacturing capacity is sold to Polaroid Corp. for distribution by Polaroid and PDC into their respective regions.

Computer Sciences, El Segundo, said it received a $32.7-million contract from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for computer-based services at Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md. The company will provide the software to increase the functions and capabilities of the network control center for the tracking and data relay satellite system.

Wangtek, Simi Valley, a subsidiary of Rexon, Culver City, said it received contracts exceeding $50 million to supply Colorado Memory Systems, Loveland, Colo., and Tecmar, of Solon, Ohio, with Wangtek’s advanced series quarter-inch cartridge-tape drives.

Com Systems, Van Nuys, a telecommunications company, said it sold its Charlotte, N.C.-based subsidiary, TelAmco, to Tel/Man, Greenville, S.C. Terms of the cash transaction were not disclosed.

Unocal, Los Angeles, said the Zaire government has approved the company’s purchase of Muanda Oil, a wholly owned subsidiary of Belgian-based Cometra Oil.

Unocal assumes a 17.72% interest in a license for exploration and producing properties covering the entire offshore area of the Zaire. The purchase will net Unocal about 4,800 barrels of oil per day.

City of Industry-based Applied Technology division of Western Gear, Lynwood, said it received a $24-million contract from General Electric for production of accessory drives for B-1B bomber and F-16 fighter aircraft engines.

Rising Star Industries, Torrance, said it is discontinuing its exclusive marketing pact with Epson America under which it had provided software design, development and support service for Epson computers. Rising Star said that it was a longstanding, amicable decision and that services will still be provided to Epson on a nonexclusive basis.

CALIFORNIA

Marsh & McLennan Associates, San Francisco, a subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Cos., has acquired the business of McNary & McNary Jewelers Insurance Services.

Equatorial Communications, Mountain View, said it received approval from the Federal Communications Commission to supply 20 Caribbean countries with point-to-multipoint data distribution services. Equatorial said it will distribute financial commodity news, weather and other information services to the countries via the company’s transponders on two U.S. domestic satellites, Galaxy III and Westar IV.

Watkins-Johnson, Palo Alto, received a $1-million contract from General Dynamics to supply filters for the Air Force’s F-16 fighter.

Separately, Watkins-Johnson said it was awarded a follow-on contract valued at more than $8.3 million by General Dynamics to supply microwave electronic filters for the Sparrow missile.
