Boy, 9, Dies After 5-Year AIDS Battle

STOCKHOLM —
A 9-year-old hemophiliac boy who contracted AIDS five years ago from a transfusion of blood received from the United States died of the deadly disease over the weekend, a hospital official said today.
“He lay unconscious for the last four weeks before dying Sunday of AIDS,” said Inga Marie Nilsson, head of the coagulation laboratory at Malmo hospital in southern Sweden. “The boy had multiple infections in the entire body, including the brain.”
