The contracting company executive was sentenced to four months in jail and fined $10,000 after he acknowledged giving Hawaiian and Puerto Rican vacations to an employee of the Washington Public Power Supply System. The employee, who was fired in 1982 after the trips were discovered, was instrumental in granting orders to the contracting company for a nuclear plant plagued by cost overruns. Paul E. Arbogast, 57, was vice president of Lord Electric Co. at the time. Arbogast admitted he provided, through Lord Electric, three paid vacations valued at about $20,000 to 65-year-old Carl E. Edwards, who was supervisor of contract administration at WPPSS nuclear plant No. 2.
