Flooding in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula sent water up to six feet deep swirling through streets, closing schools and forcing families to flee their homes. Marquette County was declared a disaster area because of flooding spawned by record 80-degree heat, heavy rain and the melting of a snowpack that was three feet deep. Heavy rain caused flooding in Arkansas and prompted flood watches in Arkansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and Iowa. In the nation’s capital, record heat in the 90s and a lack of rain produced a bumper crop of pollen.
