Seventy-nine pieces of jewelry that belonged to the late mother of heiress Martha (Sunny) von Bulow, whose husband is on trial a second time for attempting to murder her, were sold at auction Tuesday for $2.5 million.

The most valuable piece from the collection of Annie-Laurie Aitken of New York and Newport, R.I., was a flexible collar necklace made up of rubies weighing a total of 135 carats and 31 carats in diamonds. It was sold to an unidentified American private collector at Sotheby’s gallery for $572,000.
