Brooks Quits as Vice Chairman of Crocker

Vice Chairman David A. Brooks of Crocker National Bank said Thursday that he is leaving the bank to pursue unspecified interests that will allow him to be “more creative.”

Brooks, 45, spent 10 years at the big San Francisco-based bank, most recently as head of Crocker’s specialized financial services and real estate group. He also served as a director at the bank and its holding company, Crocker National Corp.

The bank said his duties would be assigned to existing officers.

Brooks said his decision was influenced to some degree by the planned takeover of Crocker by London-based Midland Bank, expected to be completed this year. Another factor was Crocker’s modest first-quarter profit, which Brooks said signaled the beginning of a turnaround for the troubled institution.

“It seemed like a good time to launch off and do other things,” he said.
