The Region : 2nd Baboon Heart Transplant Planned
The Loma Linda University Medical Center surgeon who put a baboon heart into the infant known as Baby Fae said he is preparing for another such transplant, but will not be ready for at least a month. Dr. Leonard Bailey told a conference on heart replacement in Louisville, Ky., that he is still collecting and analyzing data on the experiment with Baby Fae, who received the animal heart Oct. 26 and lived for 20 days. “There is no data coming out of our laboratory that suggests we are not on the right track,” Bailey said.
