West Hollywood : Council Extends Rent, Condo Moratoriums

Share

With permanent rent-control and housing laws still unfinished, the City Council last week decided to extend temporary the moratoriums on rent increases and condominium conversions.

The moratorium on rent increases, passed last November, was scheduled to expire Wednesday. It rolled back rents to Aug. 6, 1984, levels (the date that the Board of Supervisors placed West Hollywood’s incorporation on the ballot) and froze them.

The council, which unanimously extended the rent moratorium to July 1, expects to pass a permanent rent control law by June.

Council members also unanimously extended a temporary freeze on condominium conversions until Oct. 1. Interim City Manager Frederick Bien said a permanent law on condominium construction and conversions is still far from completion.
