Where to Park to View the Landing
Those wishing to view the landing of the space shuttle Challenger at Edwards Air Force Base on Monday must be there at least one hour before the scheduled 9:05 a.m. touchdown, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration said Friday.
Vehicle passes will not be required for the East Shore Viewing Site, which will offer an unobstructed view of the shuttle landing on Rogers Dry Lake. The site will open at 9 a.m. Sunday. Access will be closed one hour before landing.
Those traveling from the Los Angeles area should take the northbound Antelope Valley Freeway (California 14), turn right on Avenue F, then left on Sierra Highway to Avenue E, right on Avenue E to 140th Street, then left on 140th to Avenue B. Turn right. Avenue B curves into Mercury Boulevard, which leads into the viewing site.
Those entering from California 58 should take the Rocket Site Road off-ramp south to Mercury Boulevard.
