Census Data

Regarding the article (April 27) about the availability and use of census data, “Data Junkies Count Ways to Use Census,” I would like to share one additional piece of information that might interest your readers.

The Southern California Assn. of Governments (SCAG) is the local Census Data Center designated by the state. The association is able to provide the 1980 census data (and other forecast data) at cost, as a public service, to the business community, nonprofit organizations, local governments and public agencies.

To date, many local and national business firms, churches, libraries, newspapers and public agencies have reduced their data acquisition costs by utilizing the Census Data Center services. We welcome all inquiries and have enjoyed helping meet their data needs through our services. These services include hard-copy printouts of the data either in standard of customized reports, copies of the data tapes or with computerized color graphics.

The association is a planning and coordinating agency that deals with regional problems, such as transportation, environmental quality and urban growth, affecting more than 11 million residents of the Southland. It is composed of the governments of Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Riverside, San Bernardino and Imperial counties and cities within those counties.
