Trade Embargo on Nicaragua

I have to commend you on your enlightened editorials about U.S. policy in Central America. Although I don’t always agree with every detail of your opinion, the general point you are trying to make--that the Contadora process is the best way to solve the problems in Central America--is right on target. You are so right about that. How can we get that message through the thick skulls of the Reagan Administration?

And I agree with you 100% about no aid to the contras . Just because President Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua takes a trip to the Soviet Union doesn’t mean that we should support a terrorist insurgency against his government, one that really hurts innocent Nicaraguan people. That kind of logic is like saying, they don’t have a free press, so we should bomb the hell out of them. What is becoming of us?
