World Health Panel Decries Trade Curbs
A World Health Organization panel Tuesday deplored economic sanctions in general, despite opposition by the United States, which said the move was aimed at its trade embargo against Nicaragua.
The resolution did not name the United States or Nicaragua, but cited U.N. General Assembly decisions deploring trade restrictions, blockades, embargoes and other sanctions imposed by advanced states to coerce developing countries.
Delegations from 59 countries voted in favor of the motion, while Israel joined the United States in voting against it, and 37 mainly Western nations abstained.
