The World : Bulgaria Fights Terrorism

Share

Bulgaria acknowledged that it has been the scene of fatal terrorist attacks during the last nine months, and it said Parliament is discussing countermeasures. Bombings and mysterious fires have been reported since Aug. 30, 1984, when a bomb exploded at the Plovdiv train station. That incident was confirmed by the official news agency, but other reported attacks were not. Sources in Vienna said a group calling itself the Bulgarian Socialist Party in Exile claimed responsibility for the Plovdiv bombing. An official agency, Sofia Press, said that terrorism was nonexistent in Bulgaria until recently, but that terrorist acts in the last nine months have killed “innocent people” and “stirred alarm among the population.”
