The first woman is scheduled to be ordained in November into the priesthood of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The 230,000-member church, based in Independence, uses the Book of Mormon in common with the Utah-based Mormon Church but the latter church bars ordination of women.

The step by the reorganized branch, authorized by its world conference, will bring its practice into line with most mainline Protestant bodies that ordain women.
